Job Overview
Working without appreciable supervision, leads and supports occupational health and safety site management in the development, implementation, and monitoring of programs/policies/practices to ensure a work-sites compliance with federal, state, and local occupational health and safety regulations. Responds to emergencies, conducts mishap investigations, supports the timely identification of incident root cause activities, and recommends corrective action. Leads the emergency preparedness program and support business continuity planning. Conducts safety training programs; trains employees in the prevention of work related industrial accidents. May be responsible for processes across organizational lines. Exercises judgment in planning and organizing work; monitors performance and reports status. Remains abreast of and consults on technical advancements. Identifies and routinely uses the most effective, cost efficient and best practices to execute processes; continually evaluates their effectiveness and appropriateness. Ensures employee compliance with St. Jude Medical and CRMD policies.

Requirements/Education: Bachelors Degree in industrial hygiene, health sciences, or an equivalent academic field. A minimum of eight plus years of progressively more responsible experience in an occupational health and safety role or related function. Professional certification or designation. Expert working knowledge of health and safety protocols, regulatory requirements and significant experience interfacing with health and safety regulators; demonstrated knowledge of collection and analysis of health and safety data. Advanced evaluation skills, originality and ingenuity are musts as are demonstrated verbal and written analytical/problem solving, communication, negotiation, interpersonal and presentation skills are essential; the ability to understand and comply with applicable U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) laws/regulations as well as relevant Company operating procedures, processes, policies, and rules is also required. Must also be able to handle multiple assignments. The ability to perform in a diverse cross-functional team environment is also required. Must have the demonstrated ability to understand and comply with applicable regulatory and company operating procedures, processes, policies and rules. A comprehensive working knowledge of occupational health and safety personal computer programs, and other frequently used personal computer skills including spreadsheet, word processing, and data base management skills is also required. Must be able to perform in a diverse cross-functional team environment. Must be able to maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Desired Requirements: An advanced credential in a relevant discipline/concentration. Very strong preference for significant experience in an FDA regulated manufacturing environment.
